The team

At the Community Birth Program, we bring together a diverse group of healthcare professionals from a variety of backgrounds. Together, our team provide exceptional care in a fun and friendly clinic environment.

Trang Duong ND, RM

Dr. Trang Duong is a Naturopathic Physician and Registered Midwife. She completed her training in June 2000 at Bastyr University in the U.S. and has since been practicing in BC. She worked as a solo midwife prior to joining Community Birth Program. She maintains a Naturopathic Practice with her husband Dr. Brian Gluvic. She enjoys caring for families from preconception care through pregnancy, birth and beyond - supporting a holistic and natural approach to health for families.

Jan Nusche RM

Jan Nusche is a Registered Midwife. She received her Bachelors of Midwifery Degree from UBC in 2009 and has worked in the Fraser Valley since. She is a Clinical Preceptor for UBC Midwifery Program and a trainer for the Midwifery Emergency Skills and Fetal Health Surveillance programs. She enjoys the collaborative model at CBP and is passionate about the Connecting Pregnancy Care where families learn and support each other through this amazing times of their lives.

Nargess Sharghi Somea RM

Nargess Sharghi Somea is a registered midwife. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Midwifery from Tehran University, Iran and has been working as a registered midwife since 1996. After moving to Canada in 2009, she received her Canadian training at the University of British Columbia in the MMBP program. She has been working as a registered midwife in BC since 2012. She is committed to providing holistic care to families, emphasizing woman-centred care by supporting mothers’ informed decisions.

Jennifer Krist NP(F)

Jennifer Krist is a Family Nurse Practitioner and Affiliate Professor and Lecturer with the University of British Columbia. She graduated in 2008 with a Master of Science in Nursing - Nurse Practitioner and is currently completing her Doctorate at Grand Canyon University, Arizona. Jennifer specializes in primary care maternity, maternal fetal medicine, women’s health, IUD insertions and contraception counselling. Jennifer is passionate about the global reproductive rights of women and caring for families during their reproductive years.

Desiree Reichhardt NP(F)

Desiree Reichhardt is a Family Nurse Practitioner and Perinatal clinical faculty with British Columbia Institute of Technology. She completed a Master of Science in Nursing - Family Nurse Practitioner degree at the University of British Columbia in 2014, and maintains Adjunct Faculty status with UBC. She currently practices in primary maternity care, Maternal Fetal Medicine, and provides postpartum contraceptive counseling and IUD insertions. Desiree is passionate about improving access to family planning education in our community and supporting a comprehensive approach to women’s reproductive health.

Sandra Atkinson LPN

Sandra Atkinson is a Licensed Practical Nurse. She completed her nursing education in 2008. She has worked in many different areas of nursing but her heart was to always work with moms and babies. With the last 4 years in postpartum care on the Family Birthing Unit at Surrey Memorial Hospital, she found it to be her true passion. In 2016 she completed her education to become a Lactation Consultant. She plans to complete her certification by 2018. In 2017 Sandra joined the Community Birthing Program and continues to assist, support and care for families with their postpartum experience.

Heather Devries CD (DONA), Community Birth Doula Coordinator

Heather brings 30 years experience as a DONA certified Birth doula, a background in counselling, chaplaincy and working in third world countries to assist her in her role as Doula Coordinator. Her passion is to ensure that every parent has access to and understands the benefits of physical comfort measures, emotional support, how information helps parents make informed choices and advocacy. Equally, she enjoys being a Birth Doula in the Community Birth Program and facilitating in the Centering Pregnancy group sessions.

Alyssa Labrosse CD (Dona)

Alyssa Labrosse is a DONA certified birth doula and a certified childbirth educator. Alyssa has completed her doula training, childbirth educator training and breastfeeding training through Douglas College. She has been a doula for over 10 years and has been teaching prenatal education to expectant parents for the last 5 years. Alyssa plays an active role in her community volunteering for organizations such as La Leche League as one of their leaders, the Doula Services Association as one of their board members and she passionately works with Fraser Health on the Baby Friendly Initiative. She loves supporting families during the childbearing years and empowers them as they walk through their journey into parenthood.
